I joined the FCL Organisation back in 1997, fresh out of school and I was not really sure what I wanted to do with my life. I had always had a passion for engineering, motorsport and motorcycles in particular, so when I was passed on details of a vacancy at Pipercross Performance Air Filters manufacturing facility in Northampton I applied thinking it would be the perfect ‘stop gap’ job whilst I decided where my career path would run. Being a big racing fan and also getting involved with motorcycles at a very young age, I knew only too well of the immense reputation of Pipercross within racing and also road going applications, so working with them would keep my interest at a high. Little did I know I would be working for the same group 19 years later, albeit in a very different capacity! After 6 months at Pipercross, and lots of training in the world of air filtration I was not going anywhere, I was hooked! In my final job role at Pipercross (some 9 years on) before transferring to Filtration Control Ltd, I was Production Manager. This job entailed the overseeing of all production lines, ensuring product quality continued to consistently surpass customer expectation and also working closely with some of the world’s largest racing teams and vehicle manufacturers on developing new, ground breaking applications varying anywhere from Lawnmower Racing to Formula 1 and MotoGP. A true dream for any self-confessed petrolhead!

What is your job role?

I am Customer Account Manager for the FCL Organisation covering London and Central areas of the UK. In this role I work closely with our customers to ensure that our service delivery meets and exceeds customers’ expectations consistently, that any issues that can arise are dealt with quickly and efficiently. I work on new applications, product development and also take on technical queries to support customers concerning what products should be used, and where. Product and service development is a key part of my job role also, working closely with our suppliers to ensure that we are offering our customer base exactly what they need. The flexibility of FCL and FCSL enables us to tailor our service provision exactly to our customers’ requirements, and because of this I have no two accounts that are the same, which is great but certainly keeps me on my toes! Being guided by the customer is essential, and I take great pride in the fact that I am not your average sales rep that barges into your office wearing a cheap suit, fake Rolex and talks at you for 40 minutes before telling you what you should be using as opposed to what you are actually looking for. In this role a wide and varied scope of product knowledge is required, with the product range that the FCL Organisation now offers it is essential to be able to back this up with sound, unbiased advice.

What do you enjoy about your job?

The biggest thing I enjoy about my job is that every single day is very different, literally no two days are the same. Due to the wide product range we are able to provide I can be working on air filter applications one day, braking components the next, and then engine performance and fuel economy the day after that. It keeps me very busy, and always keeps me interested which is why I enjoy the job so much. In addition to this I work with some great people, some of the best engineers in the UK bus and coach industry and I have learnt so much from them which keeps me motivated and striving to perform and deliver the service that we promise to our customers. When I transferred from Pipercross and the bright lights of Motorsport across to FCL I was not sure I had made the right move, but I was proven wrong very quickly indeed – the commercial vehicle industry is one of the most fast moving and advanced motor sectors in the world and it’s great to be a part of it.

What do you like about the company?

The best thing about working for the FCL Organisation is the team spirit, everyone works closely together in order to achieve the common goal which is to be as successful as possible. All departments pull together, help each other out and are there to assist when someone needs it. If it’s a last minute filter order to get a vehicle back on the road, our Warehouse team will do anything and everything they possibly can in order to get that filter out to the person who needs it. Our customer service teams are always on hand to help our customers which any query imaginable and within my account management team everyone is there to help each other. There are always ideas bouncing around, and if someone needs assistance there is always someone available to help them without fail. All in all the FCL Organisation is a positive, forward thinking team striving to constantly improve. There is no compromise with FCL, and that’s what sets us apart from the rest.
